USA top annual events

America is a cheerful country, there are a few annual events that are universally adored. Many visitors plan their US trips to coincide with events and festivals they’d like to attend. These recurring events take place throughout the year so If you’re looking to explore America this year, here are some of the biggest events and festivals that happen every year.

Public holidays

These are the holidays you can expect most government offices and banks to be closed: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas. There are often celebrations for each of these holidays. In addition, there are several public holidays that are exclusive to a few states like Cesar Chavez Day and Emancipation Day.

January – The Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game

The Rose Parade, hosted by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, is an annual parade to mark the start of the Rose Bowl Game, held mostly along Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, California, on New Year’s Day. Produced by the non-profit Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association,  

February – Mardi Gras

This is hosted in New Orleans and is a crazy, raucous party scene.  Bourbon Street and the town of New Orleans is packed full of party-goers and colorful dress. Future dates of Mardi Gras are;-

February- Super Bowl Sunday (Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, Florida) 

2 February The Super Bowl is as American as cornbread and fried chicken. Once a year, the two top American football teams square off amidst plenty of fanfare. This sought-after event normally takes place in one of the USA sun-belt cities’ large football arenas. Aside from the game, a big drawing card is the halftime entertainment.

April – Coachella Music & Arts Festival

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. Coachella is a The biggest musical celebration in the world, the festival has to be on any music fan’s bucket list. Dates: 10 Apr – 19 Apr 2020

May – Kentucky Oaks & Derby

Fancy attire and big hats come out at the Kentucky Oaks & Derby event in Louisville, Kentucky. This is the premier annual event for horse racing and is always a great time! In late May, the Indianapolis 500 (Indy 500) takes place, which is considered one of the top three car racing events in the world. Date: May 1st

July – Independence Day

Americans celebrate July 4th with BBQs and fireworks. Many of the major cities will also have large firework displays.

October – International Balloon Fiesta

This month brings the International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with hundreds of hot air balloons on display for various shows. Usually, in late October, the Major League Baseball World Series is played to determine the World Series Champions.

November -Thanksgiving

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City is always a big event broadcast across the country.

December – Christmas and NYE

The Christmas decorations in the big cities are incredible and the festive season is celebrated all over the country. New Year’s Eve is broadcast live from Times Square in New York City.
